Born in Birmingham, Darelle is a proud Brummie from a family of 5 with an older brother and younger sister.
I first got the opportunity to race at the age of 12 in go-karts, but I couldn’t race regularly through lack of funds, but those races were enough to give me a burning desire to be a racing driver.
At 16 I was working as an apprentice for his local VW dealership. Darelle went on to win APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR following completion of his third year with the dealership – the prize was a track day with VW UK Racing.
DW Racing was formed shortly after, with my father, Leslie. Working on everyday road cars as well as racing saloons. Including as No1 mechanic for Jack Goff in the British Touring Car Championship.
My first car race followed from a sporadic career in karting. The race was at Castle combe circuit in Wiltshire and I was driving a VW Vento. At 16, I was the youngest competitor in the field and I finished 1st in Class.
